Marvelous Colonial Revival Home

This wonderful home delights with its exceptional gardens, dramatic park-like setting, family-friendly layout, beautiful interiors, idyllic outlooks, ocean views and prime neighborhood location. Built in 1914, and designed by Master Architect Henry Gutterson, this incredibly charming property once served as one of the neighborhood’s original model homes. Architecturally beautiful, the Colonial Revival house is perfectly situated on a deep and wide 6,019 square foot lot, accentuated with lush lawns, mature gardens and a unique courtyard style setting.

Designed for comfort and easy everyday living, the house offers a desirable two-story floor plan with four of the home’s bedrooms on the upper level. There is a welcoming formal entry with a center staircase, substantial size living and dining rooms, a newly remodeled eat-in chef’s kitchen and first floor bath, a versatile main floor bedroom and a second full bath. With an abundance of period detail including refinished hardwood and softwood floors, deep cove moldings, original doors and a wood-burning fireplace, the home also features designer lighting and custom interior paint. Other amenities: partial basement with laundry area and a useful bonus room (perfect for home office or gym), a one-car garage, home security and in-ground auto irrigation systems.

Located on one of the neighborhood’s prettiest tree-lined blocks, the property is convenient to Terrace Green Park, great local schools, West Portal Village shops, restaurants, Stonestown Galleria (Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods and Target), SF Muni and Highways 280 and 101.

The developers of the St. Francis Wood, Mason and McDuffie, began planning the neighborhood more than 100 years ago, advertising St. Francis Wood as the city’s first residential park. The sales brochure touted lots that were twice the size of the average city lot, lush parks and boulevards to be designed by the Olmsted Brothers and streets lined with trees and plants. It was to be a planned community, a place that would appeal to families and to those seeking a grand lifestyle in a unique city setting. The majority of the neighborhood’s 540 homes were completed between the years of 1920 and 1940. While home styles range from Colonial Revival, Spanish Mediterranean to Tudor there is a common thread as all were built under the architectural guidance of the homeowners association. It is for this reason that the neighborhood was able to achieve homogeneity of scale, color and style and it remains that way today.
